Walnut West Community PEDAL


Spring 2018 Community PEDAL

 Classes begin Friday, January 19th, 2018 and end Monday, April 23rd, 2018.

 Registration for Spring 2018 classes opens January  5th, 2018 at the Walnut St. West Library .

  There is a 20 person limit for each class.  If you register after the class is full, you will be put on a wait list.

 Beginner — Wednesdays, 12:30-2:30 PM   (*First class on January 24, 2018)

 Intermediate — Fridays, 12:30-2:30 PM   (*First class on January 19, 2018)

 Advanced — Mondays, 5:00-7:00 PM   (*First class on January 22, 2018)

*No classes Febuary 12th, 2018 due to a private event at the Walnut West Library*

  *No classes February 19th-23rd, 2018*

 *No classes March 5th-9th due to Penn Spring Break*

   *No classes March 30th, 2018 in observance of Good Friday*

All classes meet at the Walnut West Library, 201 S. 40th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104

Important! — Community PEDAL students must choose one class to attend.  (For example, you cannot attend both the novice and intermediate class each week.)


Walnut West Community PEDAL has four class levels. Which is right for you?

The Community PEDAL@GSE Beginner Class is for English learners…  

  • Who use mostly individual words or short phrases to communicate in American English, and have very little experience talking with proficient American English speakers.
  • Who might describe events in present time, but rarely use past or future time, and have a small American English vocabulary to talk about daily interactions.
  • Whose spoken English is difficult for proficient American English speakers to understand.

The Community PEDAL@GSE Intermediate Class is for English learners…   

  • Who use mostly sentence-length or longer statements to communicate in American English, and are comfortable speaking for short periods of time with proficient American English speakers.
  • Who can easily describe events in present time, but have some difficulties describing events in past and future time, and have a moderate American English vocabulary for general topics such as work, school, or daily life.
  • Whose spoken English is sometimes difficult for proficient American English speakers to understand.

The Community PEDAL@GSE Advanced Class is for English learners…

  • Who frequently use paragraph-length or longer statements to communicate in American English, and are comfortable talking for long periods of time with proficient American English speakers.
  • Who can easily describe events in the past, present, and future time, and have a large American English vocabulary for general and specialized topics.
  • Whose spoken English is usually easy for proficient American English speakers to understand.
